Bade Miyan Chote Miyan Film Review: Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (BMCM) is a run-of-the-mill action flick with several predictable twists. However, credit should be given to the Hollywood action director – Craig Macrae, who has given some of the best action stunts in movies like Avengers: Age of Ultron, Pathaan, and Jawan. But, these action sequences will not stick with you, no matter how brilliantly they were shot and edited.

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan Movie Review: Weak Writing

If you are looking for a no-brainer, loud music & background score, and action entertainment, then BMCM is for you. It’s a 30-minute short film that has been stretched for over 160 minutes.

The script is the weakest link of the movie. The makers did not invest much in developing the story and gave too many action stunts with loud background music. In every action sequence, there were slow-motion shots of Akshay and Tiger walking in front of a blast. At times these were unbearable.

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan Movie Review: Lacklustre Acting at Best!

You’ll feel disappointed with Akshay’s acting as did not have even a single expression on his face. You’d hope to see some effort from an actor of his caliber and experience, who has given so many superhits in different genres like comedy, action, and more. The only moment where he shines in the movie is when there is a reference to Phir Hera Pheri.

On the other hand, Tiger Shroff also fails to impress us with his performance. He acts like a cool young millennial, but not in a good way. His action sequences are very good, which are also his forte and we expect good action from him.

One of the key elements of such a movie is the camaraderie between the two action superstars, but that is completely missing from the film. Their pairing feels like a mismatch.

Further into the movie, you’ll realize that the only respite was the voice modulation and watching Prithviraj remove his mask. But that’s not enough for a movie with such a stellar cast. Manushi Chillar also fails to deliver any expression and emotion.

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan Movie Review: Poor Direction & Loud Music

BMCM fails in direction and music department as well, just like in acting and writing. Compared to Tiger Zinda Hai and Sultan, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan is the weakest movie by Ali.

The action sequences were the only saving grace of the movie, but even they were too long. You might think what’s the problem here? There is absolutely nothing wrong with long action sequences, but when they are presented right from the beginning and you are overboard with them, then it is a problem.

In addition, BMCM doesn’t offer a single moment of peace as you hear a deafening background score. The songs also will distract you from the flow and pace of the film.

Maidaan Movie Review: A Tribute to India’s Golden Football Era

Maidaan Movie Review – If you’re planning to watch Maidaan, then you should get ready to be swept up in an emotionally charged and visually remarkable chapter of India’s sporting history that was almost forgotten by everyone before.

Director Amit Sharma has created a multilayered sports drama based on a true story that takes us straight into the nation’s “Golden Age” of football from the 1950s to the 60s and at the heart of it all is the dedicated visionary coach Syed Abdul Rahim who masterminded the team’s success.

Rahim’s character is portrayed by Ajay Devgan, and the character of Rahim is a captivating and complex protagonist. He’s a quiet and chain-smoking tactician intensely focused on transforming India into a football powerhouse. The film also explores his personal life, portraying a devoted family man, who teaches English to his wife Saira (Priyamani), and loves his children. Despite the story’s simple nature, these intimate and emotionally resonant moments provide vital depth and humanity.

The cinematography done by Tushar Kanti Ray and Fyodor Lyass is a true marvel, taking us directly into the intensity of the matches with exceptional camerawork and editing. The climactic showdown against South Korea at the 1962 Asian Games, in particular, is a breathtaking feat of filmmaking – a white-knuckle, nerve-jangling nail-biter that will have you on the edge of your seat, cheering along with the crowd.

Complementing the visual spectacle is AR Rahman’s rousing, emotive score, which soars in tandem with the film’s stirring depiction of football’s power to unite a nation. Maidaan makes a compelling case that the sport was far more than just a pastime back in the day. It was a source of immense national pride, highlighted in Rahim’s inspirational speech on the power of ‘team’ to his players saying “There are 11 of you on the field, but you are one team.”

If the film doesn’t perform well on the big screen at all, it’s because of the treatment of the supporting characters, who at times feel a bit thinly sketched. But these are minor issues in an otherwise sweeping, meticulously crafted cinematic achievement.

Maidaan is a thoroughly and deeply felt tribute to a forgotten era, a poignant testament to the enduring, transcendent magic of the beautiful game. In an age where football’s global stature continues to ascend, this film serves as a potent reminder of India’s once-proud footballing legacy and the singular visionary who fought to keep the nation’s dreams alive.

With a staggering 13 total nominations, Oppenheimer went into the night as the clear frontrunner. Its Best Movie award victory capped off an awards season sweep that saw Murphy take home the Academy Award for Best Actor at the Oscar Awards 2024. He won the prestigious Oscars after winning awards at the Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and Screen Actors Guild Awards for his searing portrayal of the theoretical physicist who was instrumental in developing the world’s first nuclear weapons during WWII.

In his acceptance speech, Murphy reflected on the film’s sobering resonance, saying “We made a film about the man who created the atomic bomb, and for better or worse, we’re all living in Oppenheimer’s world.”

For Nolan, the award for Best Director marked his first Oscar after being nominated several times previously for modern classics like Memento, Inception, and Dunkirk. The Academy famously snubbed his 2008 comic book sequel The Dark Knight in major categories, a decision that helped prompt expanding the Best Picture lineup from 5 to 10 nominees. This sweep by Oppenheimer made it the best Hollywood film this year.

“Movies are just a little bit over 100 years old,” Nolan said. “We don’t know where this incredible journey is going from here, but to know that you think that I’m a meaningful part of it means the world to me.”

While Oppenheimer reigned supreme, there were several other big Oscar award-winning movies throughout the evening as well.

Emma Stone’s Transformation Leads to the Best Actress Oscar

After winning the best actress Academy Award for “La La Land” Emma Stone earned her second Best Actress Oscar for her transformative role in the unique sci-fi fable Poor Things from director Yorgos Lanthimos. Stone played Bella Baxter, a young woman reanimated as an artificial being who goes on a journey of self-discovery.

“The best part about making movies is all of us together,” Stone said in her acceptance speech. “I am so deeply honored to share this with every cast member, every crew member, every single person who poured their love and care and brilliance into making this film.”

Poor Things won the Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Production Design, and Costume Design, in addition to Ston’s win. The acclaimed independent film’s quartet of wins was a surprise over heavyweights like Killers of the Flower Moon, Tár, and The Fabelmans.

20 Days in Mariupol: Best Documentary Feature

The powerful Ukrainian documentary 20 Days in Mariupol capturing the horrific Russian siege of the city last year won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature Film. Its director Mstyslav Chernov used his speech to denounce the ongoing invasion.

“Russians are killing tens of thousands of my fellow Ukrainians,” Chernov said. “I wish I had never made this film. I wish to be able to exchange this to Russia never attacking Ukraine, never occupying our cities.”

• Adapted from John Boyne’s novel, the World War II drama – The Zone of Interest won the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film and Best Sound.

• At just 22, Billie Eilish made history as the youngest two-time winner, taking Best Original Song for her Barbie track “What Was I Made For?”.
  Oppenheimer’s melancholy musical score by composer Ludwig Göransson won Best Original Score.

First-time Oscar Awards Winners in Writing and Supporting Categories

There were several first-time winners in major Oscar Awards categories as well:

• In the screenplay category, Cord Jefferson won the Best Adapted Screenplay for his sharp satirical script American Fiction, while French director Justine Triet took home the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for her gripping courtroom drama Anatomy of a Fall.
• Da’Vine Joy Randolph winning the Best Supporting Actress for her powerful role in The Holdovers as a grieving cafeteria manager was a surprise for all.
• After many iconic roles, Robert Downey Jr. finally won an Oscar for his supporting part as a vengeful government bureaucrat in Oppenheimer. “Here’s my little secret: I needed this job more than it needed me,” he said.

Overall, the Academy Awards 2024 night represented a celebration of cinema across genres, honoring everything from grand historical epics and sharp satires to eye-opening documentaries. Each day of the 3-day event was given different themes. Day 1 of the pre-wedding festivities was named as ‘An Evening in Everland’ with the dress code as elegant cocktail, while day 2 was titled ‘A Walk on the Wildside’ and day 3 was given the ‘Jungle Fever’ theme with two events planned. The first event for the third day was named ‘Tusker Trails’ where guests went on a jungle safari exploring Jamnagar’s verdant atmosphere; while the second event ‘Hastakshar’ marked the end of the celebrations and thus required a more formal dress code.

The first two episodes premiered at the JIO Mami Mumbai Film Festival on 9 Jan evening. The cast & crew of the show were assembled at the venue joined by big-shots like Anurag Kashyap, Tisca Chopra & Ranveer Shorey. The event was also attended by stars- Shruti Seth, Ashish Verma (Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo), Film Maker- Neeraj Ghaywan and many others. The Instagram stories posted by the attendees have garnered positive reviews about the yet-to-release web series. And now we just aren’t able to keep calm until it releases!

The story is said to be based loosely on real events. It revolves around an amateur chef/ home-maker Swathy Shetty (Konkona Sen Sharma) who plans to kill her husband Prabhakar (Manoj Bajpayee) and replace him with her lover Umesh (also played by Manoj Bajpayee. The plan backfires and spoils the broth when a local inspector and a few goons get involved.

“Killer Soup” like the name has an equally killer cast starring Konkona Sen Sharma, Manoj Bajpayee, Nasser, Sayaji Shinde, Lal, Anbuthasan, Anula Navlekar, Kani Kusruti, Jasir, Vidhyuth Gargi and Rajeev Ravindranathan.

Director and co-writer Abhishek Chaubey stated that he wanted to give the audience a crime thriller series that harmonizes shock and humor with a pinch of quirkiness. He wished to serve something edgy with Netflix and the experience has been creatively satiating with them.

On the other hand, Director of Series from Netflix India, Tanya Bami talked about how the love and recognition of their Netflix series received in 2023 were overwhelming and motivating. The team wanted to launch the best stories in 2024 to keep the audiences glued.

After watching the two trailers and the latest poster of “Killer Soup”, Abhishek Chaubey firmly believes that it will be a great way to start the new year- 2024. Of late audiences have a great affinity towards crime thrillers and the truth be told, this series has the right mix of ingredients in terms of craziness, quirk and bizzareness. To top it, having great versatile actors – Manoj Bajpayee, Konkona Sen Sharma, Nasser, and Sayaji Shinde play the parts is guaranteed to make this the best recipe any series has seen till date.

While the father Balbir shows affection to his daughters Reet and Roop and he remains doubtful of his son’s actions, Ultimately, that makes Ranvijay act irrationally and go to great lengths in an attempt to win his father over. The story has nothing new that Bollywood hasn’t already given, yet the audience is sure to be impressed by the amazing direction, action, and performances.

Animal Movie Review – Screenplay, Music, Actor Review, and Cinematography

Screenplay: The screenplay showcases the complex interactions between the husband-wife and the father-son. The movie keeps a balance between the intimate, emotionally intense moments and the high-stakes actions to create a compelling storyline. The dialogues in the movie are so well written that it improves the viewer’s experience and enables the characters to change realistically and the plot progresses.

Music: The songs are written and choreographed in line with the story and act as an emotional anchor that brings the audience closer to the characters and their inner emotional struggles. Overall the music improves the entire cinematic experience.

Artist Review: Ranbir as the main character brings the power to the movie as he acts through a number of emotions. Anil Kapoor as the father plays a complex role with authenticity and brings authority to his role. Rashmika on the other hand plays her part expertly, as Ranbir’s wife her character conveys intimacy and boldness with grace.

Cinematography: The cinematography produces an artistically lovely atmosphere by subtly conveying the violent and emotional plot in each frame. Throughout the action scenes, the film skillfully strikes a balance between drama, intimacy, and character-driven moments. The production design enriches the story by creating rich settings that resonate with the characters and their violent and emotional sides.

Overall, “Animal” takes audiences on a romantic, suspenseful, unexpected, and emotionally confusing journey. Through its impactful cinematography, well-chosen music, and powerful acting, the film lets the audience experience the power of deep emotions. The fact that fans are already anticipating a sequel is evidence of the film’s lasting appeal.

“Bro” is Telugu movie remake of 2021 tamil film “Vinodhaya Sitham”. Bro movie is directed by Samuthirakani and produced by TG Vishwa Prasad and Zee Studios, is a thought-provoking fantasy thriller comedy Telugu film.
